Oh for Grace to Trust Him More...

Today I became a lobster.

Just had the coldest shower you can possibly get in Florida. Which is not very cold.

I love the States. Cheap food, cheap gas! I don’t know why Americans complain!!
Come to Newfoundland where you pay $1.50 for a litre of gas!

Is that a Plank in Your Eye?

I’ve been contemplating writing this post for a while now, but seeing as I’m in the US right now and the whole “gay marriage” thing has come up all over the place, I figured I’d write my thoughts on it.

For a long time I’ve been anti-gay-marriage. But lately I’ve been thinking about it more and more. I believe in the Bible it clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. It also states other things that are sins such as lying, stealing, murder, taking the Lord’s name in vain, worshiping idols, etc. (for an extended list read Genesis-Revelation to find out more : )

I don’t know about you, but I sin. I’ve done loads of things that aren’t pleasing in the sight of God. You know why I do those things? Because I’m a sinner. I’m not a sinner because I sin, I sin because I’m a sinner. This is what I am.

How can I expect people who don’t believe in God (and for these purposes, Christianity) to follow and believe the standards to which I live? While I believe homosexuality is a sin, I also believe getting drunk, looking at pornography, lying, stealing, and swearing are sins as well. I cannot stop all these things from happening. I can’t look at someone who’s gay and say, “My that’s a lot of sin in your life because you’re gay”, when I’M A SINNER! Scripture tells us that we shouldn’t tell our brother about the speck in his eye when we have a freaking plank in our own eye.

I can’t expect everyone to live under the laws of my beliefs when they don’t believe the same thing. There are some religions that think that eating cows are sins, some think that eating pigs is a sin, but thanks be to God that our world doesn’t stop eating those animals because one group of people decide it’s wrong. (I love eating a good steak!)

This, I think, is where the church needs to wake up! No, we don’t agree with gay marriage. No one says that they have to be married in your church. We have been called by Christ to love our neighbours. Each one of us has sinned. One of the most popular sayings in the Christian community has been “Only God can judge me”. HOW SCARY IS THAT!? Do you really want GOD to judge you when all we’ve done is judge others and neglect to take care of your own sin!?

Love the sinner hate the sin?

More like “Love the sinner and hate your own sin”

I have enough sin in my life to worry about than thinking about how I can turn people away from Jesus by becoming a judgmental bigot. Love God, love others.

Flew to Tampa today. Had to wake up at 2am Newfoundland time to get here. It’s now 7:23pm eastern and I’m going to bed. SO FLIPPIN’ TIRED! But it’s worth it to see the sun!
